Camp at Courtenay

Courtney is the sister city of Comox, a center for tourism, fishing, farming and logging.  Visible from Courtenay is Forbidden Plateau, about a 1/2 hour drive from town. Attractions include the District Museum exhibits (Coast Salish big house, logging equipment and Chinese/Japanese artifacts); great fishing, bird watching, swimming and hiking; and cruises to nearby islands.

Camp at Campbell River

Campbell River bills itself as the Salmon Capital of the World. The city is internationally famous for both its ocean and freshwater fishing. Campbell River is also the gateway to Strathcona Provincial Park (Strathcona Provincial Park) to the west where mountain peaks, some eternally mantled with snow, dominate the park while lakes and alpine tarns dot a landscape laced with rivers, creeks and streams. In the valley and lower regions of the park stand old growth forests.  Many pretty little lakes dot the Forbidden Plateau area, providing good fly fishing for rainbow trout during summer. The park offers various types of water activities, wildlife viewing and excellent camping, hiking and fishing adventures. The multitude of lakes and rivers in Strathcona attract kayakers and anglers wanting to get away from it all to regain their senses in the remote tranquility offered by the likes of Buttle Lake, Megin River and Megin Lake.

Camp at Alder Bay and/or Port Hardy

Relax and enjoy the fabulous North Island scenery.  Experience spectacular sunsets, watch eagles soar and whales swim by your doorstep. Salmon fishing and bottom fishing are minutes away.  Experience the thrill of a whale watching tour, explore the Broughton Archipelago in a kayak or visit a traditional First Nations village for a barbeque lunch and native dancing.

Camp at Qualicum Beach

Qualicum Beach has long been popular as a seaside haven, equaling more tropical "paradises". Its miles of white sandy beaches slope gently to the water's edge, and provide safe swimming, even for the very young. At low tide you can dig for clams, pick oysters (shellfish harvesting requires a special licence and is restricted to certain areas) and collect sand dollars. The floral displays are unsurpassed.
